  • Electricity
    In Norway the electrical current is between 210 and 230 volts (AC). The wall outlets are usually European-type plugs with two round prongs and with or without grounding.

  • Language
    Norwegian youngsters are among the best Englishspeakers in Europe (outside the U.K. of course). In Stavanger a lot of older people also speak and understand english well. Many also understand German, too.

    Automated Teller Machines - ATMs
    There are ATMs located all over town accepting major credit cards.

    Credit cards
    Credit cards are becoming more and more used in Norwegian daily life. All the major cards are excepted in Stavanger, including American Express, Diners Club, Visa and MasterCard.

  • Smoking regulations
    Smoking is not permitted in any indoor public areas. Nor is it allowed on public transportation. As of July 1, 2004 smoking will also be banned in restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars.
